Irish born mother of three, Fionnuala McKenna, launches a European Campaign in an attempt to Fight Child Obesity, currently standing at 42 Million, globally. Together with her 10 year old daughter and 9 year old twin sons, they are driving through ten European countries in a Camper for the entire month of July.
Throughout this journey, Fionnuala and her children will be hosted by professional raw food chefs, and raw food restaurant owners. In each country workshops will be arranged for children and parents to partake in the preparation and tasting of raw food recipes.
The trip, which will be turned into a documentary in the autumn of this year, will start in the south of Italy and will include Switzerland, France, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, England, and Ireland.
The final stop on the tour is Sligo on Saturday 4th August.
Local Raw Food Coach and Nutritionist, Ann-Marie O’Connor, will host a workshop for local families.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to get your child curious about healthy eating in a fun non-threatening environment”, said Ann-Marie; “With almost one third of Irish children now officially overweight or obese the campaign is very timely and with the frightening rise in diabetes in young children a change in eating habits is essential”, she added.
The workshop will be very much hands-on with the children getting an opportunity to construct concoctions that appeal to them.
If you thought healthy eating cannot be sumptuous and indulgent you are in for a treat - literally. There will be an array of desserts and sweets that are not only delicious but GOOD FOR YOU!
The workshop is completely free for parents and children and is designed to teach families a new way of enjoying foods that are delicious as well as healthy.
The workshop will be hosted in the View Bar of The Glasshouse Hotel and will run from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday 4th August.
