One of Sligo's best known gents outfitters is to close its doors...for the last time.
Joe McCann (60), originally from Bunninadden, is to close his iconic city centre store that has provided a first class service for over 20 years in the Wine Street Carpark. He previously 'served his time' with Tommy Lavin in Ballymote before continuing his experience with Burtons and Kieran Horan.
Although sad that he will miss the daily conversations with his broad base of customers, whom he describes as friends, from across the entire northwest region Joe told
SligoToday.ie that he is looking forward to a three-month break. Without even a one-week break in the past 20 years the upcoming extended holiday will come as a welcome respite.
Vibrant Businessman Having completed over 40 years in the business, his main emphasis for the future will be combining his work with Strandhill Golf Glub and a, as yet to be revealed, venture which will occupy the vibrant businessman for a few days a week.
The delay in the development of the new Town centre did not influence his decision to retire, "My lease was up, and in the current economic climate, I just felt it was the right time to retire and pursue other interests. I have really enjoyed my time here and will dearly miss the daily chat about golf, football and politics and if I can take this opportunity to thank all my customers and friends for their loyalty and support over the years."
Joe will finally pull down the shutters on the August Bank Holiday and there are genuine bargains on offer as Joe is now selling off his entire stock.
