Body recovered by Sligo helicopter off Cork coast

A body has been found in the search for a missing man off the coast of Co Cork.

The alarm had been raised after a small yacht overturned near Cod Head late yesterday evening.

The two man crew of the yacht, a father and son, had clung to the side of the upturned vessel for four hours, before the 18-year-old swam ashore at Cod Head to raise the alarm.

The Sligo-based Coastguard helicopter crew spotted a body in the water at 1.25am, which was recovered by the Castletownbere lifeboat.

The deceased man is thought to have been from near Allihies.

Separately, a search has resumed for two fishermen who failed to return home to Co Clare yesterday.

Some debris was found off Spanish Point in the course of last night's operation, but it is not yet known if it belonged to the missing 28 foot vessel.
