It will come as no surprise to suppliers here that Sligo's least
favourite ex-restaurateur and conman Conrad Gallagher is at the centre
of another eatery debacle, this time in New York where it is being
reported that staff and suppliers are be 'stiffed'.
ny.eater.com is reporting that "the folks behind The Purple Fig may be
stiffing staff and suppliers. A
Facebook post alleges that the
restaurant's owner—who may or may not be a partner in PD O'Hurley's—has
been stiffing staff and suppliers for the last several weeks.
The Facebook post includes the "chef" among those getting stiffed, which
would be bad news for the Irish celebrity chef Conrad Gallagher who
opened it. Though it's worth noting that Gallagher has been listed as a
"consulting chef" on the project for at least the last three weeks.
At the very least, perhaps this says something as to why the New York Post described it as New York's "eeriest" new restaurant.
According to
EatBigApple, another NY restaurant reviewer "One Irish chef managed to slip
into Manhattan under the radar. While others are touting their “2nd
place finish on the 2nd season of Top Chef”, Conrad Gallagher comes with
a simple accolade: he was the youngest chef to ever receive a Michelin
Star, accomplishing that task at 25.
"Recently The Purple Fig received a terrible review from the NYPost. Now
there’re rumors that the real majority owner behind the operation is
delinquent with staff wages and supplier salaries. When I visited the
Purple Fig, Chef Conrad was present and the meal was truly spectacular.
I’m temporarily withholding my recommendation of this place until the
truth surfaces."
Expect more to follow from Gallagher's latest exploits in the USA.
