The former co-joined twins, Hussein and Hassan Benhaffaf are again guests of honour, along with their parents Angie and Azzidene and sisters Milaka and Iman, at the 3rd Annual National Twins Festival 2012 being held in Sligo today (Saturday) from 2-6pm. They arrived in Sligo yesterday evening.
The Festival now in its 3rd year is held in the south Sligo village of Keash, near Ballymote and is expected to attract over 200 sets of twins with participants from 23 counties already confirmed and registered online. Last year 105 sets, plus 5 sets of triplets and one set of quads took part in the festivities doubling the numbers who attended the inaugural event in July 2010. The youngest set of twins at Twin Fest 2011 were three weeks old, while the oldest were entering their 90th year.
This year’s Twin Fest is in aid of Act for Meningitis, a charity launched by the Carroll family of Oranmore, Co Galway, whose daughter Aoibhe died of meningitis when she was four.
The festival was founded in memory of baby Katie Garvey from Keash, who was also a victim of meningitis.
This Family Fun Day centred around twins, triplets and quads provides endless entertainment on the day with all the exciting novelties that children expect including face painting, bouncy castles, bucking bronco, Eagles Flying, Tullyboy Animal Farm, the Bozo Magic Show and a lot more. Music, Dancers, Arts and Crafts and more sedate attractions will appeal to the more mature visitors. A pamper area for mums to relax and unwind is also on hand.
A full professional Bar-B-Q will provide ample catering for all ages on the day.
While entrance to Twin Fest is free all donations are gratefully accepted to assist the charity in its constant effort to improve the lives and families of those affected by meningitis.
