Sisters Cycling in Cuba for Alzheimer Charity

Sisters Mary and Patricia Molloy, from Ballinafad and Knockvicar are currently fund-raising for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. They will be participating in a Challenge Cycle in Cuba in November for the charity.

They have also planned a number of interesting and exciting events for September for their fund-raising venture for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. These include :-

A Film Weekend of local interest.


Films by John McGahern will be shown in the mobile Cinema North-West on the weekend of 8 / 9 September. The mobile cinema will be located in Lough Key Forest Park (Rockingham) for this film weekend.

Films being shown include;


The Rockingham Shoot, which is loosely based on events in the Rockingham/Knockvicar area, and which stars Bosco Hogan, Niall Toibin and a host of other renowned Irish actors, will be screened at 8pm on Sat 8 Sept, and at 6pm on Sunday 9 Sept. (Tickets €10).

Korea, written by McGahern and directed by Cathal Black, who will be a guest speaker at this film screening on 9 September at 8pm. (Tickets €5)

The Documentary “A Private World” about John McGahern which was made shortly before his death, will be screened at 6pm on Sat 8th, admission free.

Tickets for the films are on sale in Carty’s, Ballinafad; Surprises& Better-Buys in Boyle and from The Dock (071 9650828) and the Reading Room, Carrick-on-Shannon.

A Neven Maguire Cookery Demonstration will take place in the luxurious surroundings of Kilronan Castle on Wednesday 19 September. In addition to the demonstration, there will be a wide range of crafts, jewellery, preserves, home-made cakes, etc. on display and for sale. The evening also includes a complimentary glass of wine and canapés.

A raffle will provide the opportunity to win some fabulous prizes, including Dinner, Bed and Breakfast for 2 in Neven Maguire’s Macnean restaurant, in Blacklion, Co.Cavan. Kilronan Castle and Lough Rynn, along with a range of other local businesses are also sponsoring excellent prizes.

Tickets for Neven's demonstration night (cost €20, which includes Complimentary Wine & Canapés) are available from Kilronan Castle (071 9618000), Broderick’s in Sligo , Mulvey’s in Carrick-on-Shannon, Surprises & Better-Buys in Boyle and local shops and pubs. (This event is in aid of both Alzheimers and Local Community Development).

Other events; A Table Quiz in The MayFly Inn, Ballinafad on Saturday 29 September at 10pm and a Table Quiz in The Moorings, Knockvicar on Saturday 13th October at 10pm.
