Friday deadline for €5 septic tank charge

Sligo County Council (SCC) are advising owners of septic tanks and other domestic waste water treatment systems that the deadline for the payment of €5 septic tank charge expires this Friday, 28 Sept. After this date, people will have to pay a fee of €50.

The council have expressed their thanks to those already registered and paid the reduced charge, and has confirmed that it will be pursuing all outstanding charges from the start of October. Owners need to renew their registration every five years, at no cost.

Protecting water quality


SCC have stated that 'The key benefit of the new registration system is that it will help to protect our water and our environment. This measure will protect public health and will also have positive economic benefits for tourism, recreation, agricultural and food-producing sectors, all of which are dependent on clean water.'

By post - application forms can be collected at the above local authority offices, in public libraries and Citizens Information Centres or by downloading the form and sending it by post with the registration fee to ‘Protect our Water,’ PO Box 12204, Dublin 7. Please DO NOT send cash by post.
