The man charged with the
murder of Sligo pensioner Eugene Gillespie made a brief appearance in
court yesterday, Friday, at Harristown Court, in Castlerea Prison.
Simon McGinley (29) with an address at Connaughton Road, Sligo was further remanded to appear again on Friday 19 Oct
He
has pleaded guilty to the murder of Mr Gillespie at the victims home on
Old Market Street, Sligo between the 19 and 20 September last.
Meanwhile,
gardai in Sligo are believed to be continuing the investigation into
the possibility of accomplices involved in the heinous crime.
Yesterday,
over 250 people walked silently from Sligo City Hall to Mr Gillespie's
former home where they recited a decade of the Rosary.
Many were visibly upset and vowed to return today to Old Market Street at 2pm where a candlelight vigil will be held.

Meanwhile
the Eugene Gillespie Memorial Fund is growing and if not utilised as a
reward will be used to establish a scholarship and perpetual award in
the Irish arts scene, namely Feis Shligigh and Feis Ceoil.
