Fianna Fáil Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has criticised the Minister of State John Perry for his ‘appalling lack of commitment’ to the future of Malin Head Coastguard Station.
The Donegal Senator raised a special debate on the issue in the Seanad this week to discuss the findings of the Fisher report earlier this year. Upon questioning from Senator Ó Domhnaill, Minister Perry refused to make any commitment to keeping Malin Head Coastguard Station open.
“The Minister’s response was nothing short of bleak,” Senator Ó Domhnaill said. “I am appalled at the lack of commitment we have seen from Fine Gael to Malin Head Coastguard since the party entered power last year. I am urging all local representatives to stand up for this region and protect the future of our local coastguard station.
“Malin Head Coastguard has provided a vital service to this region for decades. It recently reopened after significant investment secured under the previous Government. Not only is it crazy to waste such investment, my big concern is the impact on this region of losing such an important and valued service.” Always be first with Sligo news - Never miss a story - Join us on Facebook
