Harkin applauds St. Angela's role in EU Healthcare Legislation
St. Angela's College, Sligo, has played and continues to play a significant role in ensuring that healthcare professionals who travel across borders deliver good outcomes in patient safety.
This was stated by Independent MEP Marian Harkin when she launched the ‘Transform’ programme - a plan devised by St. Angela's in collaboration with various European partners for Healthcare Professionals working in another EU Member State.
She added that "as well as creating this extremely useful programme, which if implemented will make a significant different to patient outcomes, a number of St. Angela's staff have through their ongoing work - presenting documents and participating in consultation seminars - helped to influence European policy on the movement of healthcare professionals across borders".
She added that "when I approached them a number of years ago to ask for their assistance and expertise, they were more than willing to be involved, and that labour is now bearing fruit as we finalise the EU Directive on the Recognition of Professional Qualification.
"It is my hope and belief that this will ensure higher standards and good quality care for European patients, and St. Angela's can be proud of the role it has played in this process," the Ireland North & West MEP concluded.
