Department appeals Grange parochial house plans at Grange

AN ALERT reader in Grange spotted that yesterday's SligoToday.ie report on plans for the local parochial house was amiss. Mea culpa.

Local PP Fr Christy McHugh has not appealed to Bord Pleanala following the granting by Sligo County Council of a planning permission.

Protected Structure

The house is a protected structure and the Council attached conditions to its granting of permission.

The plans offered by Fr McHugh to the Council are to ''renovate and extend'' the building.

The appeal against that decision, lodged earlier this month with Pleanala, came from the Department of Art Heritage & Gaeltacht, based in Wexford.

The Department had also made a submission to Sligo County Council before its original decision.

Pleanala has indicated its decision will be made by February 2013. However, this may be an indicative date only.

Big Money Raised

Big money was raised locally in recent years to renovate Grange chapel, which is on the main Sligo/Bundoran road.

Now, if Bord Pleanala approves, the parish plans to proceed with an an upgrade of the old parochial house at Grange, which is sited adjacent to its chapel.
