Developer proposing 97 houses seeks time extension

A DECISION is expected in the next few days on whether planners in Sligo will extend the duration of a previous permission for 97 houses at Farranacardy.

The original permission was granted in July 2007, at the unbridled height of the Celtic Tiger boom.

The site of 13.4 acres to the east of the town proposed to have 55 houses, 32 apartments and a two-storey creche catering for 27 children.

Casscon Building Company Ltd made its application for renewal in August.

Sligo Borough Council has indicated that its decision is due by October 16th, next Tuesday.

In the boom, Casscon developed private housing schemes at Carney, Strandhill and Collooney.

Two submissions were made to the Borough Council when the Farranacardy scheme was first mooted. An "objection" was also withdrawn in early 2007.
