Cork on alert for more flooding

Emergency services are continuing to monitor weather conditions in Cork city, with high tide expected at around 8am.

Several streets in the city centre were flooded last night, with water entering a number of business premises.

Of the three high tides since Tuesday night, last night's caused the most flooding, with higher water levels extending even further through the city.

Water covered all of the South Mall, while nearby Oliver Plunkett Street also flooded last night, for the first time this week.

Water entered a number of premises on both streets, although damage was minimal.

Cork City Fire Service has set up an operations room at the city fire station.

Last night 30 fire-fighters were operating on level two, the service's response to localised flooding.
