Missings girl's brother stabbed to death by step-father

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of 23-year-old Dean Fitzpatrick in Dublin on Saturday night.

The man being detained by detectives investigating the killing has been named as the victims step-father David Mahon.

He is being held at Coolock Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí were called to Burnell Square apartments at Northern Cross on the Malahide Road at 11.20pm last night, where they discovered the body of a 23-year old man. He had received a number of stab wounds.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man has been identified as Dean Fitzpatrick, brother of missing Irish teenager Amy Fitzpatrick.

The 15-year-old went missing on New Year's Day 2008 after leaving a friend's house on the Costa Del Sol.

Gardaí at Coolock are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack or who may have information to contact them or use the confidential Garda hotline.
