IT Sligo students promote volunteering

IT Sligo marketing students are currently organising a float for the Sligo volunteer centre.

Their work is part of the community project module at IT Sligo. The module offers an opportunity for students to gain valuable hands on experience in marketing.

The float will be on display in Sligo’s ST Patricks day parade.

The students will be promoting the Sligo volunteer centre. With Sligo being named European capital of volunteering for 2017 there will be a big focus on volunteering in this year’s parade.

The students hope to promote Sligo as well the volunteer centre. The centre offers a link between people interested in volunteering and non-profit organisations. The centre gives advice and support on volunteering opportunities in the region.

The marketing students are finding this module offers them a lot of skills with one student saying “the project offers us the chance to gain experience with marketing and sales outside the classroom”.

The float hopes to incorporate and promote the service which the centre offers. The students are busy organising the float. With help from the Sligo sport and recreation partnership the students have acquired a tandem bicycle which will be on display in the parade. There is also talk of a large magnet in the float that will hopefully attract some attention.

St Patrick’s parade is a great day for the community and the students hope to make it enjoyable for everyone. This year’s parade will be starting at 12 noon. For more information on the Sligo volunteer centre phone: 071-9111042 / Email: info@volunteersligo.ie
