A 62-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a double murder in a Drogheda Hotel 30 years ago
Thomas 'Ta' Power, 33, and 26-year-old John Gerard O'Reilly, both senior INLA figures, were shot dead in the Rossnaree Hotel, near Drogheda, as part of an internal feud in January 1987.
The suspect was arrested in Dublin this morning and is being questioned at Drogheda Garda Station.
He can be detained for up to three days.
Gardaí say the investigation into the double murder 30 years ago is still continuing and today's arrest was on foot of new information.
Two other men were injured in the attack which Gardaí believe was carried out by a rival faction within the subversive group.
The victims were at the hotel for talks with the other faction when two masked gunmen walked in and shot them.
No one was ever charged in connection with the attack, but the investigation remained open and earlier this year a reconstruction was broadcast on Crimecall as part of a new appeal for information.
The man arrested in Dublin this morning is well known to Gardaí.
The man lived in Holland for a number of years where Gardaí say he operated as a major international drug trafficker, moving large quantities from South America to Ireland through the continent.
