Cllr Dara Mulvey is delighted that an idea raised by him at a meeting of Sligo County Council is now in operation. The new car sharing service for Co Sligo is now located near the Railway station in Sligo Town.
Cllr Mulvey told Sligo Today
, "I first raised the idea of this facility been brought to County Sligo at a meeting of Sligo County Council earlier this year having discussed it with representatives from GoCar.
"I am delighted that this new service which has been successful in other locations through out Ireland which allows people who cannot afford a car the opportunity to drive on a pay-per use basis which will be located at the railway station Sligo.
"Car sharing allows people to rent cars for as little as an hour, using a booking system to reserve the vehicle and in-car technology to unlock the car and drive. It is ideal for people who only need occasional access to vehicle and don’t want to own one.
"Fuel, tax, insurance and maintenance are all included. Car sharing reduces car dependency, congestion, noise and air pollution, and frees up land traditionally used for parking spaces.
"Each shared car has been proven to replace between 10-15 private cars, as well as increasing use of public transport.
