Cork crash this morning leaves two dead and four injured

Two people have been killed and four others have been injured in a road crash in Co Cork.

The crash happened at around 11am on the main Cork to Limerick road close to Blarney at a junction 10 miles from Cork city..

Those who died - believed to be a man and a woman in their 50s - were pronounced dead at the scene.

They are understood to be US visitors en route to Blarney

The four people who were injured were also treated at the scene.

It is believed they collided with an articulated lorry.

A second car was at the junction, but not understood to have been involved in the incident, being driven by a pregnant woman who was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The N20 Cork-Limerick road is closed in both directions and is likely to remain closed for the day to facilitate an examination by garda forensic road crash investigators.

Local diversions are in place and gardaí are advising motorists to avoid the area.
