Following last week's report that Sligo is at the bottom of the table for job creation (see link below)
Tony McLoughlin TD for Sligo Leitrim raised the issue with the Taoiseach leo Varadkar in the Dáil yesterday.
Deputy McLoughlin said, "Taoiseach,
It was announced this week by the ‘Western Development Commission’ that Co. Sligo has suffered the lowest levels of employment growth of any County, over the last five years.
This figure is not surprising to us in the Northwest, and I have raised this issue time and time again in this house, but to no improvement.
The reality is that the ‘Recovery’ is barely noticeable on the ground in my constituency. And it is clear the Program for government’s ‘Action Plan for Job’s’ is clearly not working in Sligo and its environs.
On this basis Taosieach, can you or the Minister for Jobs please take into consideration these worrying new figures, and give me an indication that you will look more closely at progressing the jobs issue in Sligo
A reply is awaited.
