Met …ireann yesterday issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Sligo, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Clare and Kerry.
The warning will remain in place from 3am in the early hours of Thursday morning until Thursday evening at 8pm, said Met.
The UK Met Office have predicted the Atlantic storm, named Caroline, to pass close to the north coast of Scotland on Thursday morning.
But Met …ireann are reporting that severe winds due to affect parts of Scotland will also generate strong and blustery winds over Ireland.
Gusts of between 100km/h and 110km/h are expected, with the strongest winds expected over coastal areas and high ground.
But thatís not all: The next few days have forecasts for hail, thunder and freezing temperatures.
Motorists are cautioned to watch for widespread frost, with temperatures of minus two degrees and a risk of icy patches.
