Boil water advice to continue in south Sligo

BOIL WATER restrictions will continue for at least another four weeks in areas served by Lough Talt, it was decided yesterday, Friday.

The decision followed a meeting earlier in the day involving the HSE, Irish Water and Sligo County Council.

The most recent set of results from the Cryptosporidium test on the Lough Talt water supply were reported to yesterday’s meeting.

The HSE has confirmed it’s investigating cases of illness as a result of the contamination.

The ‘boil water’ advice  has been in place for over three months now.

Since that decision on February 5th last, the situation has been updated and monitored.

Areas affected include two south Sligo towns, Tubbercurry and Ballymote.

Villages also hit include Annagh, Aclare, Bellaghy, Bunnanaddan, Curry, Lavagh, Ballanacarrow, Carroweden, Kilmacteige, Quarryfield and Coolaney.

Also included are households supplied by the Ogham Group Water Scheme in Co Sligo.
