Former Westlife singer Shane Filan has opened the door to a sensational Westlife reunion by insisting: Maybe.
The singer was speaking exclusively to the Irish Sun on Sunday
at the start of the second leg of his UK tour which continues all through this month and June. The 38-year-old Sligo man is just back from touring Asia where he enjoyed stints in South Korea, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
After months of speculation, fans will seize on his words about the possibility of a reunion and hope it’s edging closer to reality.
He revealed: “Westlife is something in all of our lives.”
The newspaper revealed last month that the four remaining members of Westlife had turned down a deal to reunite as a five-piece — including original member Brian McFadden.
Simon Cowell has a deal on the table offering Westlife’s five lads €50million to reunite — but McFadden’s inclusion looks like a deal-breaker.
The singer claims Shane, Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily told the X Factor guru they “didn’t want me back”.
But sources insisted Cowell was determined to get the band back on the road.Asked about the likelihood of a reunion which would almost certainly lead to a wave of sell-out revival concerts across the UK and Ireland, Shane told the newspaper: “Time will tell, someday it might happen.”
Shane is heading into a packed schedule of his own solo dates across the UK and is also supporting pop legend Lionel Richie on four nights of the superstar’s tour.
Richie became a fan of Westlife after the band covered Easy Like Sunday Morning
and Shane is excited about the tie-up.
He said: “He’s such a gentleman and it’s an honour to be providing support, I am really looking forward to it.”
Shane is in the best shape of his life and keeps trim for his tours with intense gym sessions. As part of his tour preparations, last week he popped in to see his former boss Eamonn Cunningham, the owner of EJ Menswear.com in Shane’s hometown of Sligo.
Shane and Westlife bandmate Kian Egan both worked for Eamonn before hitting the big time. He said: “Eamonn is such an amazing supporter and, as I’ve worked for him, it has come full circle.
His clothes are top quality and his incredible shop is a bit like Selfridges, with service to match.”
Eamonn and his team outfitted Shane for his Asian and UK tour dates and jokes it’s like a Westlife reunion whenever the singer pops in for a new wardrobe.
The fashion boss said: “Shane is an absolute gentleman and we are proud to support him in whatever he does. Dressing him is easy as he has such a great sense of style.”
