A top-ranking terrorist wanted for allegedly plotting the Bali attacks has been shot dead by police at a Jakarta internet cafe.
The al Qaeda-trained Indonesian, named Dulmatin, was one of three suspected militants killed in two co-ordinated raids on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta.
The 39-year-old, who received his training in Afghanistan, was wanted over the suicide bombings that ripped through two Bali nightclubs popular with Western backpackers in 2002.
The attack, which killed 202 people, was the single deadliest attack in Indonesia's history.
Southeast Asia's most wanted fugitive had a $10m (£6.7m) price for his capture, offered by the US government.
It is not clear who would be entitled to the reward.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, speaking to officials in Canberra on Wednesday, confirmed the "successful police raid" had yielded Dulmatin.
He described him as "one of the top Southeast Asian terrorists that we've been looking for".
The three men were thought to have been members of a new al Qaeda-linked cell operating from a training camp in the northern province of Aceh.
More than 88 young Australians were killed in the Bali bombings in what has become known as the country's 9/11.
Killing Dulmatin will be hailed as a major intelligence breakthrough ahead of President Obama's visit to Indonesia later this month, where security issues are expected to dominate the talks.
