18 Aug. 10.00 am – 4.00 pm
19 Aug. 10.00 am – 1.00 pm

This August, The Model introduces an adult workshop suitable for all levels; this workshop will be a master class in traditional painting techniques led by Swedish artist Allan Madsen.

Madsen’s painting style encompasses classical realism through to modern abstraction. The artist will share his knowledge including the use of special scumbles, colour and other effects, which allows the painting to be built up, layer by layer from start to finish. Madsen lives in Spain and regularly exhibits in Ireland, Sweden and Denmark. The course costs €110 for the three sessions. Booking is essential.

Between the years 1971 and 1981 he studied and taught music in London with harp music from renaissance as his specialty. During this period he also started studying the art of drawing. In 1981 he moved to Paris, where he continually improved his art at the same time he did work in Italy and Spain.

In 1988 Allan Madsen moved to Sweden but he is currently living and working in Spain.

Allan Madsen uses the same technique in his artistry as the old 17th century masters  where he first covers the canvas with a base color and then starts building the structure and motif.  It is the feeling and atmosphere that is important in his paintings and the motif is used to bring the viewer in to the picture. Disassociated, fragmented and reconstructed appear, in Madsen´s work, the allegorical figures of Botticelli and Giotto, the masterly anatomical studies by Michelangelo and the airs of mystery and the ineffable and blurred figures of Leonardo.
