Gardai are again this morning hunting a gang who robbed a popular Pub and assaulted it's owners in Collooney, County Sligo yesterday evening. The incident occurred just before 6.30pm when the licensed premised was closed.
Quigley's Pub, on the Collooney - Ballisodare Road, a petrol station, grocery shop and pub is owned and run by two elderly brothers, Alfie and Laurence Quigley, both in their 70's . The three-man masked gang, believed to be armed with a variety of weapons, tied up Laurence Quigley during the vicious raid. Although he was struck with a bat, he is understood not to be seriously injured.
He was taken to Sligo General Hospital for treatment.
A technical examination is being carried out at the cordoned off premises this morning.
Details of what was taken in the robbery has not yet been released, however it is understood that a significant sum of money was taken.
Although the pub is only 150 metres from Collooney Garda Station, the station is unmanned on a full-time basis and was 'downgraded' to a Green Box status.
Neighbours, upset at the raid, have described the brothers as two gentlemen.
