Eamon Scanlon is from Ballymote where he ran his butchering and current Auctioneering business. He was elected to Sligo County Council in 1991 for the Ballymote L.E.A and at each subsequent election. He was elected to Seanad Eireann on the Agricultural Panel where he served for five years. In 2007 he was elected to represent the people of Sligo and North Leitrim in Dáil Eireann.
